HOUSTON – After three games and a week in Louisiana, the HBU women's basketball team returns home to Sharp Gym for the next four games, beginning with a 7 pm tip against Central Arkansas Thursday, Jan. 15.

The Sugar Bears lead the all-time series, 4-1, and won both meetings last season: 67-54 Jan. 4 in Conway and 57-55 Feb. 15 in Houston.

HBU (6-9 overall, 0-4 SLC) tied its season low of 15 turnovers and had three players score in double figures, but the Huskies lost at Southeastern Louisiana, 67-59, Jan. 10. The Lady Lions shot 90 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line.
 
Rachel Arthur scored a game-high 18 points, playing in all 40 minutes for the third time this season. Shanice Steenholdt registered her ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Anna Strickland pulled down a team-best 13 boards.
 
On the season, Steenholdt continues to lead the conference in both overall scoring (18.5 points per game) and rebounding (10.9 per game). Strickland is second in overall blocked shots (1.7 per game), while Steenholdt is tied for third with 1.5 blocks per contest. Tayler Jefferson is T-3rd with 3.7 assists per game. In conference-only stats, Strickland is T-4th with 1.8 blocks per game. HBU leads the Southland Conference with a 47 field-goal percentage.

After starting conference play 2-0, Central Arkansas (9-7 overall, 2-2 SLC) has dropped two straight, the most recent being an 82-46 defeat at Lamar Tuesday night. Jameka Watkins led the Sugar Bears with 12 points, while Raquel Logan came off the bench to pull down eight rebounds.
 
On the season, Maggie Proffitt is 9th in the conference with 13.1 points per game. She has made 39 three-pointers this season and is second in the conference with 2.4 long balls made a game. Kelsey McClure is the top rebounder for the Sugar Bears, averaging 5.8 boards per game.

Following Thursday's game, HBU hosts New Orleans Saturday at 4 pm on the front-end of a double-header, Lamar Saturday, Jan. 24, and Abilene Christian Thursday, Jan. 29.
