D'Angelo Wallace had six catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Redshirt freshman linebacker
Garrett Dolan recorded 14 total tackles and a sack. Junior defensive end
Josh Jones made a sack for a safety.
McMurry quarterback Matthew McHugh connected on 14-of-23 passes for a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions. Paxton Grayer caught two passes for 92 yards. Chris Simpson led the Warhawks with 45 rushing yards.Desmond Guy led McMurry with nine tackles.
HBU took an early lead on junior
Travis Shinn's 38-yard field goal with 11:47 left in the first quarter, but McMurry answered back on a six-yard TD run by Simpson. Jones' safety and a 28-yarder by Shinn with 2:07 remaning in the opening frame put the Huskies ahead, 8-7.
Smith had a five-yard touchdown run, but the extra point was blocked as the Warhawks took shut the Huskies out in the quarter and took a 13-8 lead into halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Fleming hooked up with Wallace for a 14-yard touchdown, the first in HBU history, but Shinn missed the extra point as HBU regained a 14-13 lead. The Warhawks came back and took a 20-14 lead on a 22-yard touchdown reception by Smith.
With 12:06 to go in the fourth quarter Shinn hit a 20-yard field goal to cut the Warhawks' lead to 20-17, and the Huskies quickly got the ball back after McHugh was sacked and senior linebacker
Aaron Benson recovered a fumble. The ensuing drive ended on Shinn's missed 30-yard field goal attempt that would have knotted up the game.
HBU also got the ball back in McMurry territory with 7:28 to go, but Craig Bell fumbled at the 30, giving the Warhawks the ball back with 6:29 left. McHugh then hit Smith for a 55-yard score to put McMurry ahead 26-17.
The Huskies return to action when they hit the road to face Northern Colorado Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CDT in Greeley, Colo.
