Mupier Scores as Men’s Soccer Battles SMU to Tie

Huskies play two home exhibition matches this week before beginning regular season

DALLAS, Texas – Sophomore forward Ricky-Paul Mupier gave HBU a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but SMU tied the match midway through the half, as the two teams battled to a 1-1 stalemate in an exhibition match Sunday evening from Westcott Field.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the opening half, as HBU held a slim 4-3 advantage in shots and 2-0 in shots on goal.

Mupier gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead 1:57 into the second half, assisted by Alex Baez, as Mupier chipped the ball past keeper Caleb Underwood.

The Mustangs evened the scoring in the 60th minute, with an unassisted tally from Abdul Yassine.

Four different Huskies registered a shot on goal in the match: Mupier, Thilo Borgmann, Tobenna Uzo, and Corey Lutz. Senior Kevin Suarez started in goal and played 49:39. Chance Pope saw action in 17:43 and allowed a goal and made one save. Philip Poser played the final 22:38.

Yassine and Idrissa Camara had the only shot on goals for SMU, as shots were tied 9-9 for the match and HBU had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Michael Nelson started in goal for SMU and made two saves in 31:58. Underwood made one save and allowed the goal in 27:25. Avery Miller played the final 30:37.

HBU will play two more exhibition matches, both at home, before beginning regular season action. The Huskies host San Jacinto on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7 pm, then conclude the preseason with a 7 pm matchup against St. Edward's on Saturday, Aug. 23.
