FRISCO, Texas – HBU senior first baseman
Mike Chamberlain has received one of six Southland Conference F.L. McDonald Post Graduate Scholarships, the league office announced Wednesday.
The scholarships are awarded to the graduating male and female letterwinners in an SLC-sponsored sport who have compiled the highest cumulative GPA during enrollment at one of the league's member institutions.
Chamberlain, a kinesiology major, recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, also earning HBU's Varsity Athletic Academic Award and the Outstanding Academic Performance Award in Allied Health.
This season, he has recorded five extra-base hits and is second on the team with 19 walks in 34 games this season. He has eight RBI and has scored 12 runs. In February, Chamberlain broke a tie game against Texas-San Antonio with a two-run home run in the 13th inning to lift the Huskies to a 9-7 road victory over the Roadrunners. Later that week, he delivered a three-run triple in the series finale win over Northeastern. He reached base safely in nine-straight games, which included a five-game hitting streak.
Chamberlain will be recognized along with other award winners at the Southland Conference Honors Dinner May 20 in Frisco.
