The Huskies announced their 2014 football schedule Wednesday, with the season kicking off Sept. 6 at home against McMurry.
Ticket Information

HOUSTON – The HBU football program will officially enter into NCAA Division I FCS and Southland competition in 2014, and has released its 11-game slate for the campaign, Athletics Director Steve Moniaci and Head Coach Vic Shealy announced Wednesday.

"We are excited about our first official season of NCAA football and as a member of one of the premier FCS conferences in the Southland," Moniaci said. "We are also looking forward to opening our new home stadium on campus and delivering what we expect to be tremendous regional rivalries to our fans."

The Huskies will play five games at their new home stadium and six on the road.

"These are great times in the life of our university as we begin a relationship with the Southland Conference and we want to bring a championship-caliber program to the city in which we call home," Shealy said. "Playing eleven games straight without an opening date will demand a great deal from the strength gains we are seeing in our players during the offseason and test the mental toughness of our underclassmen."

HBU opens the season at home in the new on-campus stadium on Sept. 6 against McMurry, followed by a pair of non-conference road games at Northern Colorado on Sept. 13 and at Texas College on Sept. 20.

"The Southland Conference, from top to bottom, has become the strongest FCS conference in the country, so we will have to grow up fast each week as we progress through conference play," Shealy said. "This year is important to our players and coaches as we gain insight and understanding of the conference programs, as well as the challenge of playing on the road in this league."

The Huskies will play an eight-game Southland schedule, beginning at home for Family Weekend against Abilene Christian on Sept. 27. HBU will play back-to-back road games at Incarnate Word on Oct. 4 and at Central Arkansas on Oct. 11.

HBU will then have two in a row at home against Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 18 and Nicholls for Homecoming on Oct. 25. The Huskies once again go on the road for two more at Lamar on Nov. 1 and at defending conference champion Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 8.

The Huskies wrap up the season at home against Sam Houston State, which also made the FCS playoffs, on Nov. 15.
