RICHMOND, Ky. – Following a big week one victory at home, the HCU football team will hit the road to take on Eastern Kentucky for the first road game of the season at 5:00 p.m. CT at Roy Kidd Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPN+ while Nicholas Pietrzycki will handle play-by-play duties on Patriot Talk 920 AM.

The Huskies (1-0) put together an impressive offensive performance in their season-opening win over Arkansas Baptist. HCU's running backs racked up 405 yards on the ground while the offense finished with 534 yards of total offense. It was the second-highest single-game rushing total in program history and ninth-most yards of total offense. Three of the program's top four single-game rushing totals have occurred in the last eight games, dating back to last year's upset win over No. 22 McNeese.

Redshirt freshman Xai'Shaun Edwards announced himself as part of the Huskies' backfield after playing sparingly last season with 21 yards on six carries. The League City native racked up 175 yards on 17 carries on Thursday with a school record four rushing touchdowns. Redshirt senior Darryle Evans added three touchdowns on 18 rushes with 88 yards gained.

Senior all-American linebacker Rodney Dansby made his return to the HCU defense on Thursday, donning the blue and orange for the first time since Nov. 18, 2023. He had three tackles and a quarterback hurry. Dansby now has 355 career tackles for the Huskies.

Eastern Kentucky (0-1) dropped a matchup at Louisville on week one, falling on the road in a 51-17 final. The Louisville defense was stout, limiting the Colonels to just 150 yards of total offense. Myles Burkett threw for 76 yards on 5-of-14 passing while Brayden Latham finished with 25 yards rushing and Brady Hensley added 24 yards on the ground.

The EKU defense came away with three interceptions in the loss with Vito Tisdale making two interceptions, taking one 29 yards for a pick-six. Tisdale's other pick came on the very next possession, returning pick number two 43 yards just ahead of halftime.

The Colonels received votes in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll released on Monday.

HCU won the only previous meeting between the Huskies and Colonels on Oct. 3, 2020 in Richmond. Quarterback Bailey Zappe led the Huskies 380 yards passing and three touchdowns on 35-of-46 passing. HCU got out to a 24-7 halftime lead but the Colonels fought back to within one, 31-30, with just over four minutes left to play. The Huskies came up with a huge blocked PAT and safety Tra Fluellen returned the blocked kick 98 yards for two points and the 33-30 final score.

HCU remains on the road next weekend, traveling to Lincoln, Neb. for the program's first-ever matchup against a Big Ten opponent when the Huskies take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, Sept. 13, morning at 11:00 a.m.
