ABILENE, Texas – The HBU women's basketball team heads northwest on I-36 to begin the second half of their season-high four-game road trip as the Huskies take on Abilene Christian Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 pm. HBU concludes the road trip Saturday at Incarnate Word at 2 pm.

The meeting against ACU will mark the first ever on the hardwood, while HBU leads the all-time series against UIW, 2-0. The Huskies and Cardinals have not met since Jan. 29, 2002, when HBU won at home, 75-68.

HBU (9-12 overall, 5-5 SLC) converted a conference season-low 14 turnovers and had key free throws and a defensive rebound by Tayler Jefferson in the waning seconds in the Huskies' 63-62 win at Sam Houston State Feb. 1. It was the Huskies' fifth win in the last seven games.

Shanice Steenholdt earned her 11th double-double of the season, with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while matching her career high of five blocks. Her fifth block was the biggest one yet as it resulted in a shot-clock violation with 35 seconds left and HBU leading by two points. She was later named Southland Conference Player of the Week. Rachel Arthur contributed with 10 points.

On the season, Steenholdt leads the conference with 18.5 points per game in 10 SLC contests, and is second with 18.0 points per game in overall scoring. Arthur is second on the team with 10.9 points per game.

Abilene Christian (12-10 overall, 3-4 SLC) lost road games against Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State. The Wildcats have now lost four of its last five games. Against NSU, Alexis Mason led four Wildcats in double figures with 18 points, while Suzzy Dimba pulled down 11 rebounds.

On the season, Renata Marquez leads ACU with 13.3 points per game, while S. Dimba averages a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game.

Incarnate Word (8-12 overall, 2-6 SLC) is in the middle of a four-game losing streak after road losses to Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. Shelby Leinneweber came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points against SFA.

On the season, Rose Whitehead averages a team-best 13.8 points per game, followed by Ifunanya Mora with 10.5. Mora and Michelle Hale average 7.3 rebounds per game.

After the road trip, HBU is home for five of the final six games of the season. The home stretch begins Thursday, Feb. 13 against Oral Roberts at 5 pm, which is the annual "Play 4 Kay" breast cancer awareness game and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
