Men’s Basketball Falls to Oral Roberts

HOUSTON – Oral Roberts rode Shawn Glover's hot hand early, then kept HBU at bay in the second half from behind the arc in an 80-66 victory over the Huskies in Southland Conference basketball Thursday night at Sharp Gym.
 
Sophomore guard Rob Lewis had 19 points off the bench for HBU (4-21, 1-12 SLC), while freshman forward Colter Lasher and freshman guard Jimmy Barton each had eight points. Freshman guard Reveal Chukwujekwu lead the Huskies with nine rebounds, and Barton added four assists.
 
Glover went 11-for-15 from the field to lead ORU with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Korey Billbury had 12 points and led the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds. Adrion Webber had 11 points and Jorden Kaufman had 10.
 
ORU shot 55 percent from the field for the game, including 7-for-14 from 3-point range, but only 7-for-13 from the free throw line. HBU shot 36 percent from the field, 8-fo-17 from long distance, and 18-for-26 from the stripe. The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Huskies, 38-34.
 
ORU scored the first basket of the game, but HBU answered with the next seven on layups by Chukwujeku and Barton and a three by Lasher. ORU bounced back by scoring 11-straight to take a 15-9 lead with 12:27 to go. The Golden Eagles extended their led to 16 at 31-15 with just over six minutes remaining. Lewis answered by scoring the Huskies' next 12 points, which included 3-pointers on three-straight possessions as they cut the Golden Eagles' lead to eight. ORU settled for a 39-29 lead at the break.
 
In the second half, the Golden Eagles went 5-for-11 from 3-point range, building up their lead to as many as 22, before settling for a 14-point decision.
 
The Huskies return to action when they host Central Arkansas Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
