Live AudioLive VideoLive StatsGame NotesHOUSTON – After playing five of the first six games away from home, the HBU women's basketball team will finally be able to enjoy some home cooking, as the Huskies open a four-game home stand Saturday, Dec. 13 against Arlington Baptist. Tip-off is set for a 4 pm start and is the front-end of a doubleheader with the men's team.
Saturday will mark the first meeting between the Huskies and Patriots on the hardwood. Fans who bring in a canned good will be able to get into the game for free.
HBU (3-3) hasn't played in a week due to finals. The Huskies outscored host UTEP 44-24 in the paint and had four players in double figures as the Huskies defeated the Miners, 87-77, Dec. 6.
Shanice Steenholdt had season-highs of 27 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists en route to earning conference player of the week honors for the second time this season.
Tayler Jefferson scored 15 points as she set a career high with 10 free throws made.
Ashleigh Nwanguma had season highs of nine points and nine rebounds.
On the season, Steenholdt continues to lead the conference with 21.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 11 blocks and is second with 13 assists and eight steals.
Rachel Arthur is averaging 10.7 points per game as she is shooting 53 percent from the floor. Jefferson averages 10.8 points per game and has a team-best 27 assists and 10 steals.
HBU is shooting 48 percent from the floor compared to 40 percent for its opponents.
Arlington Baptist (6-1) won its third-straight game, defeating Hillsdale Baptist, 75-68, in Moore, Okla., Thursday.
Prior to meeting the Lady Saints, Arlington Baptist is led in scoring by Jade Johnson with 22.2 points per game, followed by Morgan Hale with 19.7. Rosalyn Thorpe is averaging 17.5 points per contest. On the glass, Thorpe leads the Patriots with 7.8 rebounds per game, followed by Hale and Johnson with 6.5 and 6.2 boards per game, respectively.
The Patriots, the No. 1-ranked team in NCCAA Division II, is shooting 49 percent from the floor and averaging 89 points a game.
After Saturday's contest, HBU hosts Texas Southern Wednesday, Dec. 17 and McMurry Friday, Dec. 19, both at 6 pm.
