Shanice Steenholdt scored a game-high 26 points and freshman guard
Lisa Zderadicka dropped 16 in her collegiate debut, but TCU had a 26-point halftime lead en route to an 87-64 victory over HBU Friday night.
Steenholdt recorded a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead HBU (0-1), as she went 12-for-22 from the floor with zero turnovers in 31 minutes. Zderadicka shot 6-of-13 and hit her only 3-pointer. As a team, the Huskies shot 37 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Horned Frogs, 50-44.
Four Horned Frogs scored in double figures, led by Zahna Medley with 22 points. Chelsea Prince recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. TCU (1-0) shot 41 percent from the floor.
After TCU took a 2-0 lead, HBU scored nine unanswered to lead 9-2, started by a steal by
Erin McGarrachan and a foul in the act of shooting, as McGarrachan hit both free throws. After another Horned Frog turnover,
Tayler Jefferson nailed a triple.
TCU used a 22-6 run to take a 24-15 lead at the 9:54-mark, prompting a Huskies' timeout. The breather did not slow down the Horned Frogs, who ended the first half outscoring HBU 30-13 to take a 54-28 lead at the half.
Steenholdt led HBU in the first half with 12 points and eight rebounds. Medley was the top performer for TCU, as she had 17 points.
TCU led by as many as 34 early in the second half before HBU cut it down to 23 following a free throw by
Monet Neal at the 11:12-mark to make the score, 66-42. That was the closest the Huskies would come the rest of the way, as TCU led by as many as 33.
Steenholdt scored 14 second-half points for the Huskies, while Natalie Ventress scored nine points for TCU.
HBU plays at UT Arlington Sunday at 3 pm.
