Game Notes EVANSTON, Ill. - HBU tips off its 50th season of basketball when it travels to face Northwestern in the opener Friday at 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Legacy Sports Network broadcast with Jeff Sutton and former Husky Anthony Hill can be heard on HBUHuskies.com, beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show.
The Huskies are coming off a 6-25 season in 2013-14, returning nine letterwinners, four starters and three seniors from that squad. Senior guard
Tyler Russell is the team's leading returning scorer at 8.3 points per game last year, but he is averaging 10.3 points per game for his career. Senior center
Ricmonds Vilde is the only returning player to appear in all 31 games last season and is the team's top returning rebounder with 4.7 per game, while sophomore forward
Colter Lasher scored in double figures in seven of his last 10 games. Senior guard
Marcel Smith enters the season as HBU's all-time leader in free throw percentage and has led the Huskies in assists in each of his first three seasons.
JerShon Cobb is the top returning scorer at 12.2 points per game and added 4.8 rebounds for a Northwestern club that went 14-19 last season. Alex Olah averaged 9.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, and Tre Demps averaged 11.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 2013-14. Drew Crawford is the Wildcats' key loss to graduation from a year ago, leading the team with 15.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Friday night's game is the first meeting between HBU and Northwestern.
The Huskies return to action to host Hillsdale Baptist in the home opener Monday at 7 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
