HOUSTON – HBU senior outside hitter
Megan McStravick led the Huskies with 16 kills and 10 digs in their 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) victory over Lamar University in Southland Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Wooten recorded a match-high of 18 kills for HBU (13-13, 7-4 SLC). Sophomore setter
Kayla Armer also had a match-high with 43 assists. Senior libero
Haley Hoffman recorded 13 digs for the Huskies.
Cortney Moore led the Cardinals with 13 kills. Ashley Ellis and Jenna Jackson each had 16 assists for Lamar. Megan Schwartz recorded 13 digs for the Cardinals.
In the first set, the Huskies jumped out to lead the set 12-9, but the Cardinals battled back to tie up the set 12-12. HBU then took their lead again in order to take the set 25-18.
In the second set, HBU and Lamar tied early 2-2. However, the Huskies then took a 10-point lead 19-9. The Cardinals were not able to make a comeback, leaving HBU to win the set 25-14.
In the third set, the Huskies and Cardinals battled back and forth to keep their leads. After tying 20-20, a kill by McStravick put HBU up by one, but Lamar scored a point in order to tie it again. The Huskies then fought hard to take their lead back and won the set 25-23.
The Huskies outblocked the Cardinals 6.5-5. HBU outhit Lamar by 10 kills. The Huskies outdug the Cardinals 49-40.
The Huskies will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 4 as they face A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
