HOUSTON – HBU senior outside hitter
Megan McStravick led HBU (7-11, 2-2 SLC) with 15 kills and 13 digs in their 3-0 drop to Northwestern State Thursday evening in Sharp Gym.
Sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Wooten recorded a match-high of 17 kills for the Huskies. Sophomore setter
Kayla Armer had a match-high of 41 assists for HBU. Senior libero
Haley Hoffman recorded 13 digs for the Huskies. Junior middle blocker
Allison Doerpinghaus had four block assists for HBU, while freshman middle blocker
Blair Gillard had three.
Mackenzie Neely recorded 13 kills for the Lady Demons. Madison Walford had 15 assists for Northwestern State, while Emily Johnson had 14 assists. Bailey Martin recorded a match-high of 19 digs for the Lady Demons, while Stacey DiFrancesco had 11 digs. Amanda Kunz recorded a match-high of six block assists for Northwestern State.
In the first set, the Huskies trailed 9-10 to start off the set, but managed to score four straight points to take the lead 13-10. HBU later kept their lead 21-18, but the Lady Demons fought back four straight points for a 21-22 lead. The Huskies then tied up the set with a kill from Wooten. Northwestern fought back to take the lead again, but HBU tied it back up with a kill from sophomore outside hitter
Ashlee Vann. Blocks by Doerpinghaus and Vann helped the Huskies take a 24-23 lead, but the Lady Demons came back with three straight points to take the set 24-26.
In the second set, Northwestern jumped out to a 2-5 lead, but HBU battled back to tie up the set 6-6. The Huskies took an 8-7 lead, but the Lady Demons scored five straight points to make the set 8-12 and kept their streak to 11-15. HBU then scored four straight points to tie up the match, with a returning point scored by Northwestern, but the Huskies fought to tie up the set 16-16. Northwestern pushed to lead 17-19, but HBU pushed back to take the lead 20-19. After tying up the set at 20-20, the Lady Demons scored three to make it 20-23. Northwestern then took the set 23-25.
In the third set, the Huskies trailed 0-4, but scored their first point of the set from a kill by Vann. Northwestern took the lead until HBU came back to tie up the set at 13-13. The Huskies did not see a lead for the rest of the set, but did manage to fight back to 21-22. The Lady Demons battled to take the set 23-25.
The Lady Demons outblocked the Huskies 11-8. HBU outhit Northwestern State 43-38. The Huskies outdug the Lady Demons by just three digs.
The Huskies will return to action Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. as they face Stephen F. Austin at home in Sharp Gym.
