HOUSTON – HBU junior middle blocker Allison Doerpinghaus set a four-set match school record with 14 blocks and added six kills in the Huskies' 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13) victory over McNeese State in Southland Conference volleyball Thursday evening in Sharp Gym.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Wooten recorded a double-double for HBU (10-12, 5-3 SLC) with 20 kills and 12 digs. Senior outside hitter Bailey Keith had 12 kills for the Huskies, along with four blocks. Sophomore setter Kayla Armer recorded a match-high of 43 assists. Senior outside hitter Megan McStravick led the Huskies with 13 digs and added seven blocks. Senior libero Haley Hoffman had 11 digs for HBU on Dig Pink night, which raises awareness for breast cancer.  
 
Amber Fryer led the Cowgirls with 14 kills, while Carly DeMarque added 11 kills. Kelly Graham recorded 31 assists for McNeese State. Malina Sanchez had a match-high of 18 digs for the Cowgirls.
 
In the first set, the Cowgirls took the first two points for the lead, but the Huskies came back to tie up the match 2-2. After McNeese led by as many as three points early on, HBU battled back to tie the match again at 7-7. The Cowgirls then scored two more points to take the lead, but an attack error helped the Huskies to take the next point. The Huskies first took their lead in the set 13-12, but the Cowgirls came back to tie the set 13-13. HBU then scored two points with kills by Keith and Doerpinghaus. As both teams battled, the set became tied again at 16-16. After a service error occurred, the Huskies scored three straight points to continue their lead 20-17. HBU finished the set off with a 25-19 victory.
 
In the second set, neither team led more than two points until Wooten had back-to-back kills to put the Huskies up 20-17. HBU scored the last five points of the set, which was capped by back-to-back aces by Armer to take the set 25-18.
 
In the third set, the Huskies fell behind by three early, then McNeese went up 15-11. HBU battled back to tie the set 17-17, then took their first lead at 19-18. McNeese scored three straight points to take a 24-21 lead and went on to win by three to stay alive in the match.
 
In the fourth set, the Huskies jumped out to a 7-3 lead. A pair of three point runs extended HBU's lead to 17-7. The Huskies scored the last three points of the match to win 25-13.
 
HBU dominated the net, outblocking McNeese 21-5. Doerpinghaus fell just one block shy of the overall school record of 15, which was set by Janice Lee against Albertson on September 1, 2000. The Huskies outhit the Cowgirls 49-41. HBU outdug McNeese by 10 digs.
 
The Huskies will return to action on Homecoming Saturday when they will face Nicholls at 1 p.m. at Sharp Gym. Fans who show their ticket to Saturday night's football game between HBU and Nicholls will receive free admission to the volleyball match.
