BEAUMONT, Texas – HBU embarks on a season-high four-game road trip this weekend, as the Huskies face Lamar Thursday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 pm, followed by a 1:30 pm tip at Sam Houston State Saturday, Feb. 1.
Lamar leads the all-time series, 4-0, and won both meetings last season. SHSU leads the series, 5-1, as the Bearkats won a non-conference meeting earlier this season, 85-68, Nov. 19 in Huntsville. In that game,
Erin McGarrachan scored a season-high 21 points.
HBU (7-12 overall, 3-5 SLC) shot 50 percent from the floor and scored a conference season-high 84 points, but Elizabeth Styles' jumper with three seconds left lifted visiting Southeastern Louisiana to an 85-84 double-overtime win over the Huskies on Jan. 25.
Shanice Steenholdt recorded her ninth double-double on the season, with 32 points and 15 rebounds.
Tayler Jefferson scored 11 points and dished out a career-high nine assists.
Steenholdt leads the Southland Conference with 18.5 points per game in eight conference games. She is sixth with 9.3 rebounds per game in conference games and third in overall games with 9.3 boards per contest.
Rachel Arthur averages 11.2 points per game, followed by McGarrachan with 10.2. McGarrachan is shooting a team-best 86 percent from the free throw line.
Dominique Edwards scored all 18 of her points in the final 11 minutes to lead Lamar (11-8 overall, 6-2 SLC) to a 76-69 road win over Incarnate Word last Saturday.
Edwards added 11 rebounds to earn a double double. Gia Ayers tied for the game high of 21 points.
On the season, Edwards leads Lamar with 16.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Ayers averages 14.1 points per game and leads the team with 33 steals. Caroline Adesulu has a team-best 15 blocks.
Sam Houston State (9-10 overall, 4-4 SLC) had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 73-67 loss at Abilene Christian Jan. 25. Southland Player of the Week Angela Beadle scored 20 points to lead the Bearkats.
Beadle leads the team with 16.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Jasmine Johnson averages 11.9 points per game and has a team-best 16 steals.
