Men's Basketball Starts Louisiana Swing at Nicholls

Huskies look to keep momentum from last second thriller of first Southland victory.

THIBODAUX, La. - HBU hits the road again for two more Southland Conference games, stopping first for a meeting against Nicholls State Thursday at Stopher Gym. The Legacy Sports Network broadcast will be available on HBUHuskies.com.
 
Sophomore guard Rob Lewis leads HBU (4-12, 1-3 SLC) with 11.8 points per game, while junior guard Tyler Russell adds 10.8 points per game and sophomore forward Cody Joyce chips in with 10.3 points per game. Sophomore forward Dauson Womack leads the Huskies with 5.5 rebounds per game, and junior center Ricmonds Vilde pulls down 5.3.
 
Dantrell Thomas leads Nicholls State (6-7, 3-1) with 15.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Jeremy Smith averages 11.9 points per game, and T.J. Carpenter adds 9.2 points per game.
 
The Huskies snapped a seven-game skid and recorded their first Southland win by clipping Northwestern State, 98-97, at home Saturday. Junior guard Marcel Smith led HBU with a career-high 21 points, Lewis had a season-high 20, and Russell had 16, including the game-winner with 0.7 left. Freshman guard Reveal Chukwujekwu had a career-high 11 rebounds.
 
Nicholls State opened conference play with three-straight wins, but had that streak stopped with an 88-61 loss to Sam Houston State Saturday. Thomas had 14 points for the Colonels, while Shane Rillieux had 13.
 
HBU owns an 11-8 advantage all-time against Nicholls State, but the Colonels won the last meeting, 80-70, on Nov. 19, 2011, at the Beryl Shipley Classic in Lafayette, La.
 
The Huskies wrap up the trip against McNeese State Saturday at 3 p.m. in Lake Charles, La. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
