INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
Tobenna Uzo's goal in the 65th minute cut the HBU deficit to 2-1, but Butler scored two late goals to extinguish any rally, as the Bulldogs defeated the Huskies, 4-1, Monday evening from the Butler Bowl.
Uzo scored his third goal in as many matches, as the freshman had two shots on goal.
Butler (3-0-1) scored the only goal of the first half, as David Goldsmith scored his first of three goals of the match in the 12th minute, assisted by Vincent Mitchell. Mitchell sent a centering pass to Goldsmith who scored from eight yards out.
HBU outshot the Bulldogs in the first half, 10-6, and held a slim 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Goldsmith gave Butler a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the second half, assisted by Jeff Adkins. Fed another centering pass, Goldsmith chipped the ball into the back of the net from five yards out.
Uzo cut the deficit to 2-1 with his tally in the 65th minute, assisted by
Kristopher Tyrpak. Tyrpak fed Uzo on the left side, who shot into the right corner of the net.
HBU had some chances to tie the match, but Butler goalkeeper Jon Dawson made two saves and
Stefan Lamanna's shot was blocked.
Butler put the game away with two goals in the final minute. Zack Steinberger scored on a penalty kick at the 89:16-mark, then Goldsmith completed the hat trick at the 89:44-mark, assisted by Adam Glanzer.
George Kelley dropped to 1-2-0 in goal for the Huskies, as he made two saves. Dawson improved to 2-0-1 as he made four saves.
HBU (1-2-0) will stay in Indianapolis to play IUPUI on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 pm.
