HBU Names Donna Finnie Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Huskies’ top assistant for past three years to run program

Donna Finnie
HOUSTON – Donna Finnie has been named interim head women's basketball coach at Houston Baptist University, Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci announced Thursday.

“Donna has been an integral part of not only the women's basketball program, but the athletic department as a whole over the past three years,” Moniaci said. “I am quite confident in her ability to lead in that area until we can come to a quick consensus on the head coaching position and move forward.”

Finnie, an Edinburgh, Scotland native, has served as the Huskies' top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the past three years. She came to HBU after spending 10 seasons as coach for the Scotland National Team. From 2000-03, she was an assistant coach with the national U-16 and U-18 teams and was the head coach for the U-16 and U-18 national teams from 2003-09. Finnie is the first head coach at any level to win two consecutive FIBA Tournaments in 2005 and 2006 and was the first Scottish female head coach to win any FIBA tournament.

She graduated with a B.S.c. degree in applied sports sciences from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Finnie assumes the interim head coach position following Mary Gleason's resignation Wednesday to pursue other coaching opportunities. Gleason was the head coach at HBU for the last three seasons.
