HOUSTON – Houston Baptist plays its final two regular season games, hosting Chicago State on Thursday at 7 pm and NJIT on Saturday at 2 pm. Senior
Joselyn Pugh will be honored prior to Saturday's contest.
HBU is 0-7 all-time against Chicago State. HBU trailed CSU by 10 at the break, 38-28, despite shooting 44% from the floor that half, as that was enough for the host Cougars in a 73-62 win on Feb. 26.
Shanice Steenholdt led HBU with 18 points and was tied with 10 rebounds, while
Rachel Arthur scored 11 points.
Ashleigh Nwanguma came off the bench to score eight points and tied for the team lead with 10 boards.
In the Huskies' last game played, HBU had big games from
Erin McGarrachan and
Shanice Steenholdt, but had no answer for the conference's Preseason Player of the Year Sammie Jensen (32 pts, 19 rbs) in Utah Valley's 59-46 win in Orem, Utah, on March 2.
McGarrachan and Steenholdt each led HBU with 17 points and nine rebounds. Fifteen of Steenholdt's points came in the second half.
On the season, Steenholdt leads the Huskies with 17.9 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, 47 blocks, and 66 steals. McGarrachan and
Tayler Jefferson are tied with 8.8 points per game apiece. McGarrachan is behind Steenholdt with 6.0 rebounds per game, while Jefferson leads the team with 38 three-pointers made and an 86% free throw percentage.
Chicago State began its three-game road trip to conclude the regular season with a 59-33 loss at NJIT on March 2.
Layne Murphy led CSU with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Chanel Wilson-Stewart was next with seven points.
Tierra Williams leads the Cougars on the season with 8.8 points per game, followed by Paris Williams with 8.3. Murphy has grabbed a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game.
NJIT has won five of its last six games. The Highlanders are led by Rayven Johnson with 15.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Uju Nwankwu is second in both categories, 7.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
