WACO, Texas – After an 11-day break between games, the HBU women's basketball team is ready to get back on the hardwood. The Huskies will play at two-time National Champion and ninth-ranked Baylor on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 pm at the Ferrell Center.
The meeting will mark the first-ever between the Huskies and Lady Bears.
HBU (3-4) led at halftime for the first time all season, but wasn't able to hang on, as visiting UT-Pan American defeated the Huskies, 76-74, on Dec. 3.
Shanice Steenholdt and
Erin McGarrachan each recorded double-doubles, as McGarrachan scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Steenholdt scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 14 boards.
Rachel Arthur scored 15 and
Anna Strickland chipped in with 10.
On the season, Steenholdt leads HBU with 16.1 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, nine blocks, and 19 steals. McGarrachan averages 13.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She is shooting a team-best 84 percent from the free-throw line on players who have made more than six attempts.
Heidi Sihvola is 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
No. 9 Baylor (7-1) lost its first game of the season, a 133-130 four-overtime thriller to No. 5 Kentucky at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Dec. 6. The game was the highest-scoring Division I women's college basketball game in history.
Odyssey Sims scored a game-high 47 points in just 41 minutes as she fouled out in the first overtime. Nina Davis had a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Sims leads the nation with 30.0 points per game. She is second on the team with 42 assists behind Niya Johnson's 62. Kristina Higgins is the top rebounder, averaging 7.4 boards a game.
