Box Score

HOUSTON – A dominating first half, in which HBU scored three times in the first 24 minutes, led to a 3-0 halftime lead and a 4-1 victory over visiting Kansas City on "Senior Day," Saturday, Nov. 9 at Sorrels Field.

Senior Kristopher Tyrpak finished one point shy of his career high, as he had a five-point night, with two goals and one assist.

Tyrpak got the Huskies going with his first tally of the night at the 9:15-mark, assisted by Charlie Gagnon. HBU scored its second goal just 53 seconds later, as Stefan Lamanna had an unassisted goal.

In the 26th minute, Tyrpak struck again, assisted by senior Mark Gendi, who sent in a cross pass for the score and to complete the scoring in the first half.

HBU outshot Kansas City, 10-3, as shots on goal were 6-0. HBU had two corner kicks to Kansas City's one.

The Huskies scored their fourth goal just six minutes into the second half, as Tobenna Uzo headed a cross pass from Tyrpak.

The 'Roos got on the board less than a minute later as Zach Balthazar scored off a rebound off a blocked shot in the 52nd minute. That goal seemed to give Kansas City life, as the very next shot attempt hit the post, but the Huskies weathered the storm.

HBU outshot the 'Roos 9-7 in the second half and 19-10 in the match. Kevin Suarez earned the win as he made one save, which was a beauty, as he dove and got a glove on a Tato Chiaparro shot. Kansas City's Chris McGaughey started in goal and took the loss, making one save and allowing three goals in 45 minutes. Kevin Corby played the second half and allowed one goal while making one save.

HBU (9-6-3 overall, 4-4-2 WAC) is now tied for first in the WAC East standings, thanks to Grand Canyon upsetting Air Force Friday night. The fifth-seeded Huskies will play fourth-seed Air Force in the WAC Quarterfinals Thursday at 1 pm central. The winner of that match will play top seed Seattle Friday at 4 pm central.
