HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team begins a three-match home stand to conclude the regular season, which begins Friday against Seattle at 7 pm. The home stand continues Sunday at 1 pm against San José State.
Seattle leads the all-time series against the Huskies, 1-0-0, defeating HBU in the Emerald City 2-1 last season. SJSU leads the series against HBU, 2-1-0, and defeated the Huskies, 2-0, last season in San José. Sunday marks the first time since 2009 the two teams will play in Houston.
HBU (7-6-1 overall, 2-4-1 WAC) lost twice on the road, 2-1 at Bakersfield and 5-2 at UNLV.
Kyle Herbison scored in each match and
Kristopher Tyrpak had an assist in each contest.
Tobenna Uzo is second in the conference with nine goals and 18 points. Herbison is next for the Huskies with four goals and 11 points, which are both new career highs in a season.
Kevin Suarez is 2-3-1 in goal with a 1.93 goals-against average, a .698 save percentage, and one shutout.
Seattle (6-8-3 overall, 5-0-2 WAC) shut out visiting Grand Canyon, 3-0, on Sunday. The Redhawks have not lost since a 2-0 setback to No. 3 Washington on Oct. 8.
Miguel Gonzalez leads the WAC with 12 goals and 25 points. Hamza Haddadi is next on the team with 11 points, as he has a team-leading five assists.
Jake Feener is 6-8-3 in goal with a 1.38 GAA, a .818 save percentage, and three shutouts. He leads the nation with 112 saves.
San José State (2-10-3 overall, 2-4-1 WAC) defeated Grand Canyon, 2-0, then tied Air Force, 1-1 in double overtime, last weekend. Prior to playing the Huskies, the Spartans play at Kansas City Friday night.
Rory Knibbs leads SJSU with five goals and 11 points. Frankie Beauchamp is next with seven points.
Emmanuel Espinosa is 2-4-3 between the pipes with a 1.17 GAA, a .771 save percentage, and two shutouts.
