Men’s Soccer Loses at UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Patrick Toh and Kyle Herbison scored for HBU, but the Huskies lost at UNLV, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Stadium.

The five goals allowed were the most since allowing six in a 6-0 loss at No. 9 New Mexico on Nov. 3, 2012.

UNLV scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, as Jason Khamvongsa scored, assisted by Julian Portugal. Following a foul by HBU, Portugal took the free kick and Khamvongsa headed the ball into the net.

Joaquin Rivas gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 16th minute, assisted by Aaron Goo. The Rebels increased their lead to 3-0, as Salvador Bernal scored on a bicycle kick from five yards out in the 41st minute.

HBU got the goal back three minutes later, as Patrick Toh scored, assisted by Kristopher Tyrpak, in the 44th minute, as Tyrpak sent in a cross and Toh tapped the ball into the net.

UNLV doubled up HBU in shots, 10-5, in the first half, while the Rebels had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Rebels increased their lead to 4-1 with a goal in the 57th minute, as Rodrigo Fuentes scored from 15 yards out. UNLV's fifth goal came on a penalty kick, as Rivas scored in the 79th minute.

Herbison gave the Huskies their second goal of the match in the 89th minute, assisted by Tyrpak, as he tapped in a cross pass. It was Herbison's second goal in as many matches.

HBU outshot UNLV in the second half, 12-10, but UNLV outshot HBU for the match, 20-17. Kevin Suarez took the loss in goal, as he made four saves. Joe Vitale earned the win, as he also made four saves.

HBU (7-6-1, 2-4-1 WAC) will return home for the final three matches of the regular season. The Huskies first host Seattle on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 pm.
