BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Bakersfield scored a goal early in the first half and scored again just before halftime, then held on, as the 'Runners defeated the HBU men's soccer team, 2-1, Friday evening at Main Soccer Field.
Bakersfield's first goal came in the seventh minute, as Jonathan Colunga scored unassisted. The Huskies turned the ball over and Colunga scored from 15 yards out, shooting into the lower right part of the net.
The Roadrunners increased their lead to 2-0 with a tally in the 40th minute, as David Velasquez scored off a cross from five yards out, assisted by Hugo Vinales.
HBU almost got one of the goals back before halftime, but
Tobenna Uzo's header attempt went just over the crossbar.
Bakersfield outshot HBU in the opening half, 7-6, while HBU had three corner kicks to Bakersfield's two.
HBU's best chance to score came in the 59th minute as Bakersfield's defense stopped
Patrick Toh's shot, saving a goal and keeping the score 2-0.

Kevin Suarez then kept the Huskies in the match, as he made three saves in a span of four minutes.
The Huskies finally broke through in the 75th minute with an unassisted goal by
Kyle Herbison. Following a foul by Bakersfield, Herbison took the free kick and scored past Roadrunner netminder Anthony Perez.
The Huskies kept the pressure on, but Toh's and Uzo's shots were both blocked.
In the final three minutes, HBU had two corner kicks with the resulting shot attempts going just wide, as Bakersfield held on for the win.
HBU outshot Bakersfield, 10-8, in the second half and 16-15 for the match. Corner kicks were 6-2 in favor of the Huskies.
Suarez came within one shy of tying his career high, as he made seven saves against Bakersfield. Perez made three saves for Bakersfield.
HBU (7-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 WAC) will conclude the road trip at UNLV Sunday at 3 pm central.
