HOUSTON –
Tobenna Uzo's team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 78th minute tied the match at 1-1 and forced overtime. Neither team could score the game winner as HBU and visiting Air Force battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0. The Huskies outshot Air Force, 9-7, while saves were tied at four apiece. HBU had two corner kicks to the Falcons' one.
The Falcons drew first blood, as Ryan Ward scored in the 69th minute, assisted by Cameron Duley. Duley sent a cross pass from the left side of the field into the box and Ward scored into the left side of the goal.
The Huskies narrowly tied the match just a minute later, as they were awarded a corner kick.
Gustavo Alvarado took the corner and
Kristopher Tyrpak's header attempt went just high.
In the 71st minute, Air Force's Zachary Modly and HBU's
George Kelley were each given red cards, forcing both teams to play with 10 players the remainder of the match.
Seven minutes later, Uzo scored for the Huskies, knotting the match at one-all. With the ball bouncing around in the box and Air Force goalkeeper, Joey Speshock, out of position, Uzo was able to control the ball and score. Speshock was injured on the play and was replaced by Brian Hoxie.
Neither team had a shot on goal the final 12 minutes as the two teams entered overtime.
Both goalkeepers made one save in the first overtime session, as the two teams entered the second OT period. Hoxie made a save on Herbison in the 108th minute and the Huskies had a couple of corner kicks late, but couldn't convert.
HBU outshot the Falcons 27-14.
Kevin Suarez made six saves for the Huskies, while Speshock got the decision for the Falcons, making 11 saves. Hoxie made two saves.
