HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team will look to begin a new winning streak when the Huskies welcome WAC foes Grand Canyon and Air Force this weekend. The match against the 'Lopes is Friday at 7 pm, while kickoff against the Falcons begins at 12 pm on Sunday.
HBU is 1-0-0 against GCU, while Air Force leads the all-time series, 3-2-1.
HBU (7-3-0, 2-1-0 WAC) had its six-match winning streak snapped at the hands of Air Force last Sunday, 3-2. The streak was the longest since the program's resurrection back in 2006.
Tobenna Uzo and
Walter Kromholz scored for the Huskies.
Uzo is tied for the conference lead in goals (8) and points (16).
Kyle Herbison is second on the team with seven points and leads the Huskies with three assists.
George Kelley has played the majority of time in goal and has a 5-3-0 record, a 1.76 goals-against average, and a .562 save percentage.
Kevin Suarez is 2-0-0 with a 0.80 GAA, a .818 save percentage, and one shutout.
Grand Canyon (1-7-1, 0-2-0 WAC) lost identical 2-1 matches to open WAC play, against HBU and Kansas City.
Kyle Ciliento leads the 'Lopes with four goals and nine points. Gerrit Thomas, who scored against the Huskies, is second on the team with five points, on two goals and one assist.
Joshua Zehring is 1-7-1 with a 1.83 GAA and .638 save percentage.
Air Force (1-8-1, 1-0-1 WAC) defeated longtime rival HBU, 3-2, on Oct. 13. The former MPSF opponents will square off for the seventh time on Sunday.
Zachary Modly, who was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Falcons with three goals and eight points. He is tied with Blake Elder for the team lead of two assists.
Jake Schenk has played most of the time in goal and has an 0-6-1 record, a 2.06 GAA, and a .709 save percentage.
