PHOENIX, Ariz. – Senior Kristopher Tyrpak scored twice – the eventual game winner coming with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation – as the HBU men's soccer team ran their winning streak to six with a 2-1 victory at Grand Canyon Friday evening.

The Huskies drew first blood as Tyrpak scored his first goal of the season coming at the six minute-mark. His shot deflected off a defender and beat GCU netminder Joshua Zehring.

The 'Lopes tied the match on a corner kick in the 29th minute. Amer Sasivarevic took the corner and Adam Finnefrock scored, tying the match at one-all.

GCU almost took a 2-1 lead just minutes after tying the match, as the 'Lopes were awarded another corner kick, but Jose Rodriguez Nieblas' shot was blocked and was cleared out of harm's way.

The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at 1-1. HBU outshot GCU, 9-6, and shots on goal were tied at 4-4.

George Kelley got the nod in goal to start the second half and ended up making one save. He had some luck on his side, as Gerrit Thomas' shot in the 62nd minute hit the post, keeping the score tied at 1-1.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead at the 80:30-mark, as Tyrpak scored his second goal of the match, assisted by Stefan Lamanna. Lamanna dribbled up the left side, then sent a centering pass to Tyrpak, who shot and scored.

The Huskies kept the offensive pressure on, while not allowing the 'Lopes to get any offensive momentum to spark a comeback to tie the match late. The Huskies had three shot attempts, while GCU didn't even have possession of the ball in the final 10 minutes.

Kelley earned the win in goal, as he improved his record to 5-2-0. Kevin Suarez made two saves while allowing one goal in 45 minutes. The last time Tyrpak had a multiple-goal match was when he had a hat trick against Howard as a freshman back in 2010.

Zehring took the loss in goal for the 'Lopes, making five saves and allowing two goals in the effort.

HBU (7-2-0, 2-0-0 WAC) concludes the road trip at Air Force Sunday at 2:30 pm central.
