HOUSTON – Freshman forward
Tobenna Uzo scored two first half goals and the HBU defense took the rest from there in defeating visiting Oral Roberts, 2-0, Tuesday evening from Sorrels Field.
Uzo, who leads the conference in goals and points, scored his sixth and seventh tallies of the season.
His first marker came in the 26th minute and was assisted by
Patrick Toh. Uzo headed the ball into the top right corner to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later, Uzo had an amazing individual effort to make the score 2-0. All alone and surrounded by four Golden Eagles, Uzo eventually slipped through all of them, then his shot beat the keeper on the left side.
HBU outshot ORU 9-2 in the opening half and the Huskies had both corner kick opportunities.
The Huskies almost made the score 3-0 in the middle of the second half, as
Stefan Lamanna's shot was blocked, and the rebound found
Thilo Borgmann, whose shot went just high.
HBU outshot the Golden Eagles 16-4 in the match and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Kevin Suarez earned his first victory on the season, as he made three saves. Ben LaCourse played the first half and took the loss, as he made one save. Isaac Sandoval played the other half and made three saves.
HBU (5-2-0) will begin WAC play at UMKC on Oct. 5 at 7 pm.
