Women’s Basketball Closes Home Stand Against Delaware State Saturday

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist will close out its four-game home stand against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Delaware State on Sat., Jan. 5 at 7 pm.

Houston Baptist (3-12) held the nation's 69th-leading scorer, Britni Martin, (17.1 ppg) to two first-half points, but the Huskies could not come back and defeat Sam Houston State, as SHSU left Houston with a 75-58 win on Jan. 2.

Erin McGarrachan scored a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Shanice Steenholdt recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Sequeena Thomas led SHSU with 23 points, as she went 9-of-10 from the line. Chanice Smith had 15 points.

On the season, Steenholdt leads the Huskies with 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with 20 blocks and 35 steals. Tayler Jefferson and McGarrachan are second and third, respectively, with 8.3 and 8.0 ppg. McGarrachan is second on the team with 5.7 rpg. Jefferson is tops with the long ball, with 18 made treys. She also leads with a 91% free-throw percentage.

Delaware State (2-10) is on a seven-game losing streak, after losing twice at the Miami Holiday Classic. DSU lost to Wisconsin, 83-54, on Dec. 28, and Central Connecticut State, 76-54, on Dec. 29.

Against CCSU, Tierra Hawkins led the Lady Hornets with 18 points and was second with five rebounds. Deanna Harmon had 13 points and Kianna D'Oliveira had seven points and six boards. Jaclyn Babe scored a game-high 23 points for CCSU.

On the season, Hawkins leads DSU with 17.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Jade Washington has a team-best 37 assists.
