HOUSTON – Houston Baptist men's soccer head coach
Steve Jones has announced the hiring of assistant coach Arick Lassiter.
“I am very excited to bring Arick to HBU,” said Jones. “He did a great job as a head coach at Huston-Tillotson and it's great to bring in a guy who has been a head coach before, because he understands and knows what it takes, everywhere from coaching to recruiting.
“Arick played soccer in Division I and coached in DI, so he knows the level,” continued Jones. “He is a great person who has energy and passion for the game.”
Lassiter comes to HBU after spending six seasons as the head men's soccer coach at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin. In 2011, the Rams finished the season ranked #14 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll and earned a spot in the national tournament for the first time in program history. HTU finished 18-3-0 that season and won the Red River Athletic Conference championship. Six players earned First Team All-Conference honors, HTU also took Offensive Player of the Year honors and Lassiter earned his second Coach of the Year award. HTU won 10 or more games every single season Lassiter was head coach.
While at HTU, Lassiter began the women's soccer program, where he was head coach from 2007-09.
Prior to coaching at HTU, Lassiter spent five seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina State.
Lassiter earned his bachelor of arts at Indiana Bible College and North Carolina-Charlotte, while earning his MA at Concordia (Calif.), and his MLS at North Carolina State.
