Jeremy Case Named Assistant Basketball Coach

Huskies add former Kansas guard to staff.

Jeremy Case was named assistant basketball coach Tuesday.
HOUSTON – Houston Baptist University has hired Jeremy Case as an assistant basketball coach, head coach Ron Cottrell announced Tuesday.

“We're excited to have Jeremy join our staff,” Cottrell said. “He brings an excitement for the game of basketball to our program as well as a knowledge of the game from playing at a high level and previously serving on a Division I coaching staff in the Ohio Valley Conference.”

Case comes to HBU after spending three years as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State and one season as a graduate assistant at Kansas, his alma mater.

“The fact that he's recruited in different parts of the country broadens our recruiting base even more than it already is, and I know he's anxious to get out on the road in July to help us bring in a terrific class for the 2013 year,” Cottrell said.

He played in 94 games at Kansas from 2004-08 for coach Bill Self and was a member of the Jayhawks' 2008 national championship team. He was also a member of four Big 12 regular-season and three tournament championship teams. During his career, the Jayhawks made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, including their title run.

Case was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team honoree and earned Athletic Director's and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition five times. He graduated with a degree in communications from Kansas in 2007.

He is the son of Win Case, who is currently an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, and Rita Newton, who played college basketball at Seminole State (Okla.) Junior College.

“Having grown up in a basketball family, with his dad coaching at the college level for so many years, as well as his experiences playing at Kansas, a highly respected program, gives Jeremy a terrific base of knowledge of how to coach at the college level and all of the aspects that going into coaching at the college level.”

A native of McAlester, Okla., Case led Oklahoma's Class 5A with 25.4 points per game as a junior at McAlester High School. He is McAlester's all-time leading scorer with more than 2,000 points during his career.
