Devyn Weymouth tied her career high with 16 points and set a new career mark with 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough in a 63-41 loss at Chicago State Thursday evening from the Jones Convocation Center.
Brittany Barton finished second on the team with nine points for HBU (1-21, 0-5 GWC), while pulling down six rebounds.
Joselyn Pugh scored seven points and eight rebounds, while stealing three balls.
Natalie Marlowe scored a career-high 23 points for Chicago State (6-20, 4-4 GWC), while Tierra Williams added 14. Paris Williams led the Cougars on the glass with eight rebounds.
HBU started the game cold from the floor, shooting just nine percent (1-for-11) midway through the first half, as the Huskies found themselves down 18-2.
Down 25-4 with 8:36 remaining in the opening half, HBU outscored CSU 7-2 to trail the Cougars 27-14 with 5:07 remaining. Barton's two jumpers were sandwiched by a pair of Weymouth threes.
But CSU used a 7-2 run of its own to close out the first half leading the Huskies by 18, 34-16.
Weymouth led the Huskies in the first half, scoring 10 points and tied for the team high of four rebounds with
Maisie Elston. T. Williams led CSU with 11 points, while P. Williams led with seven boards.
HBU went defensive to open up the second half, converting three steals in as many CSU possessions, resulting in four Husky points by
Tayler Jefferson.
The Cougars went on a 10-2 run to lead the Huskies 44-22 with just under 16 minutes left in regulation.
HBU cut the deficit to 15 on a three-pointer by Barton, but the Cougars never let the Huskies get any closer, outscoring HBU 17-10 in the final 11 minutes of the game.
HBU will conclude the road trip at NJIT on Sat., Feb. 18 at 1 pm central.
