HOUSTON – Houston Baptist returns to the hardwood for its first game since Christmas with a home contest against Red River Athletic Conference opponent, Huston-Tillotson, on Sat., Dec. 29 at 7 pm from Sharp Gym.
HBU is 23-1 all-time against the Rams. Last season, the Huskies defeated HTU, 87-70, last January, as
Shanice Steenholdt set new program records with 40 points and 22 rebounds in the win.
HBU (2-11) trailed Lamar by just three at the break, 34-31, but for the second-straight game, the Huskies had a poor-shooting second half, as Lamar defeated HBU 68-52 on Dec. 21.
Devyn Weymouth led HBU with 10 points, while Steenholdt nearly recorded her eighth double-double of the season, with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Wiebke Bruns scored nine points in her home debut.
Kalis Loyd led all players with 17 points, all coming in the first half. Dominique Edwards grabbed a team-high 10 boards.
On the season, Steenholdt leads HBU with 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with 16 blocks and 32 steals.
Tayler Jefferson is second on the team with 8.4 ppg, but leads the team with 36 assists and 90% free throw percentage. Bruns is third with 8.0 ppg.
Huston-Tillotson (5-9) has not played since a 76-68 home loss to Jarvis Christian on Dec. 17.
Erica Cray led the Rams with 20 points, with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Janequa Moore scored 17 points and Kendra Venzant added 16.
Deyara Burrell led four Jarvis Christian players in double figures, with 17 points.
On the season, Cray leads the Rams with 15.5 ppg game, while Danielle Franklin and Venzant are second and third with 10.8 and 10.6 ppg, respectively. Shaniqua Thomas leads the team with 7.2 rpg.
