HOUSTON – After a two-week break, Houston Baptist will hit the hardwood for two games this weekend in Utah. The Huskies will play two first-time opponents. HBU faces the University of Utah on Sat., Dec. 15 at 4 pm CST, then concludes the trip with a 6 pm CST tip against Southern Utah University on Mon., Dec. 17. HBU (2-8) has not played since a 59-36 loss to Rhode Island on the final day of Vermont's TD Bank Classic, on Dec. 1.

Shanice Steenholdt came off the bench to score 15 points and tied for the game high with eight rebounds. Rachel Arthur scored eight points, with two assists and one steal. HBU shot a season-low 28% (13-of-46) from the floor.

Emilie Cloutier scored a game-high 16 points for the Rams, while Megan Straumann grabbed eight boards.

Steenholdt averages a double-double on the season, with 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She is shooting 51% from the floor and also leads the team with 14 blocks and 28 steals. Tayler Jefferson is second on the team with 9.3 ppg, as she leads the team with a 90% free-throw percentage and 31 assists. Erin McGarrachan is third on the squad with 8.4 ppg and second with 6.1 rpg.

Utah (7-1), who was receiving votes after winning its first seven games, lost to visiting BYU on Dec. 8, 53-48.

Taryn Wicijowski led the Utes with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Michelle Plouffe also scored 16 points. Utah shot just 26% (14-of-55) in the game, but shot 83% (19-of-23) from the free throw line.

Haley Steed led all scorers with 22 points for BYU.

On the season, three Utes are averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Plouffe's 17.3 ppg. Wicijowski is averaging 17.0 ppg and a team-leading 8.5 rpg. Iwalani Rodrigues is averaging 11.3 ppg.

Southern Utah evened its record at 4-4 with road victories at Utah Valley and San Jose State, defeating UVU 71-66 and SJSU 93-82.

Hailey Mandelko scored a game-high 27 points for SUU over SJSU, hitting 6-of-10 three-pointers, as the T-Birds tied a program record with 15 made threes in the game.

Riana Byrd scored 24 points for the Spartans.

On the season, Mandelko leads the T-Birds with 14.7 points per game, while Kimie Hawkins leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game. Andrea Jones is tops with 29 assists.
