ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Houston Baptist concluded its first season in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a 6-0 loss at #9 New Mexico Saturday evening from the UNM Soccer Complex.
Both teams knew their fate entering tonight's contest: HBU was eliminated from playoff contention, while the Lobos had secured the top seed in the upcoming MPSF Tournament next week, which UNM will host.
UNM jumped out to a 5-0 lead at halftime and added a final goal in the second half for the win.
Ben McKendry scored the match's first goal, in the 10th minute, as he headed a centering pass by Blake Smith to the near post.
Eight minutes later, Devon Sandoval scored, unassisted. Following a Husky timeout, the Lobos took the free kick. The shot was deflected off a Husky defender and went to Sandoval, who shot it from 16 yards out.

Zach Harwerth was very busy between the pipes, as he made two saves after UNM's second goal, before allowing the third goal for the Lobos in the 30th minute. Sandoval dribbled the ball just outside the box and his shot deflected off a defender to James Rogers, who scored from two yards out.
Levi Rossi made it 4-0 just four minutes later, who scored to the near post. UNM's fifth and final goal of the first half came from Lawrence Robledo, assisted by Rogers. Rogers passed the ball to Robledo deep in the box, who took a point-blank shot.
UNM kept the pressure on early in the second half, as Harwerth made two saves and Sandoval had a shot go wide in a span of two minutes.
The Lobos' final goal of the match came in the 72nd minute off the foot of Adrian Mora Delgado, assisted by Michael Calderon. After awarded a corner kick, Calderon took the set piece. He sent a line drive into the box and Mora Delgado headed it into the back of the net.
UNM outshot HBU 22-7 overall and 12-3 in shots on goal.
Leonel Munoz led HBU with four shots and three shots on goal. Harwerth suffered the loss, allowing six goals while making six saves. The six stops were the most since he made seven saves against Campbell on Aug. 26.
Rogers led UNM with three points on a goal and an assist. Calderon led all players with six shot attempts, while all four of Carson Baldinger's shots were on goal. Victor Rodriguez started in goal and earned the win, making three saves in 45 minutes. Patrick Poblete played the second half.
HBU concludes its season with an overall record of 4-10-2 and a 2-6-2 conference mark.
