HOUSTON – After two losses last week, Houston Baptist will look to rebound against visiting UT Arlington. Tip-off is set for 7 pm on Tue., Nov. 27 at Sharp Gym.
HBU is 0-3 all-time against the Mavericks. The Huskies lost 78-61 in Arlington last season.
Brittany Barton set a new career-high with 18 points in the losing effort.
HBU (2-5) had its best shooting night against a Division I opponent (44%), adjusting well to the tough UC Davis defense, but the Huskies lost to the Aggies, 77-64, on the final day of the HBU Husky Classic Nov. 24.
Shanice Steenholdt led HBU with 15 points, while
Erin McGarrachan led the Huskies with eight rebounds, to go along with her 14 points.
Tayler Jefferson added 11 points, as both she and McGarrachan went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Steenholdt was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Sydnee Fipps scored a game-high 28 points. Tournament MVP Cortney French had 16 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Steenholdt averages a double-double on the season, with 17.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with eight blocks and 23 steals. Jefferson is shooting a team-best 89% from the charity stripe.
UT Arlington lost to visiting Memphis, 89-76, on Nov. 21.
The Mavericks are 0-4 on the year, with two losses at home and two on the road.
Malaika Green scored a team-high 28 points, going 12-for-22 from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Briana Walker came off the bench to score 22.
Nicole Dickson recorded a double-double, with game highs of 30 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers.
Green leads the Mavs on the season with 12.5 points per game, while Aron Garcia leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game.
For the first time in their collegiate careers, sisters Ashleigh and Desherra Nwanguma will face each other on the hardwood.
The Huskies and Mavs faced each other last season in Arlington, but Ashleigh was injured and was not able to face her sister.
Desherra, a junior this season, played in three minutes last season against the Huskies, going 0-for-1 from the floor.
