HOUSTON – Houston Baptist will look to bounce back after a season-opening loss to South Alabama last Friday when the Huskies host Schreiner University on Monday, Nov. 12 at 7 pm at Sharp Gym.
HBU is 6-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, last facing Schreiner on Dec. 13, 2001. The Huskies won that contest, 94-38, in Houston.
HBU (0-1) ran into a hot-shooting South Alabama team, as the Huskies lost their season opener, 83-53, on Nov. 9. The Lady Jags shot 52 percent from the floor and 35 percent from beyond the arc in the game.
Shanice Steenholdt recorded a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Erin McGarrachan scored 11 points.
Rachel Arthur had seven points and three steals.
South Alabama's Mary Nixon led all players with 22 points, followed by Mansa El with 15. Jennifer Johnson came off the bench to score eight points in nine minutes. Nixon and Brianna Wright led the Lady Jags with seven rebounds apiece.
Schreiner (0-0) played a scrimmage against the Austin Elite on Nov. 3. The Mountaineers' last regular season game came against Concordia (Texas) on Feb. 18, 2012. Schreiner fell to Concordia 60-48.
The Mountaineers lost last season's leading scorer, Olivia Swarner, who averaged 11.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Schreiner does return its second-leading scorer, Bailey Harris, who averaged 9.5 points per game.
Following Monday's game against Schreiner, HBU hits the road for the first time this season to face UTEP on Nov. 16 and New Mexico on Nov. 18.
