Sunday’s match against UNLV will be Senior Day

Live Stats

HOUSTON – With five matches remaining in the regular season, the Houston Baptist men's soccer team faces an important weekend, as the Huskies step out of Mountain Division play to host Pacific Division members CSU Bakersfield Friday night and UNLV Sunday afternoon in the final home matches of the season.

HBU is 0-1-1 all-time against CSU Bakersfield and 0-1-0 against the Rebels of UNLV. The last time HBU and UNLV met was in 2009 with a 4-2 UNLV win in Las Vegas. The meetings will mark the first as conferences foes.

If the MPSF playoffs began today, the Huskies would be in the playoffs in the final spot. HBU is currently in third place in the Mountain Division, with five points. The Huskies are one point ahead of fourth-place Denver, leaving little room for error for the Huskies to earn the final playoff spot. UNLV and CSU Bakersfield are currently tied for second place in the Pacific Division with nine points apiece. Seattle is in fourth place with one point.

HBU (3-6-2, 1-2-2 MPSF Mtn. Div.) went 0-1-1 last weekend on the road, losing to Denver 6-0 and tying Air Force 1-1. Christian Cruz scored for the Huskies against the Falcons.

Kristopher Tyrpak leads the Huskies on the season with four assists and 10 points. He is tied with Cruz with three goals. Thilo Borgmann is tied with Cruz with six points.

Kevin Suarez and Zach Harwerth have split time in goal for HBU. Suarez leads the duo with a 1.96 GAA, while Harwerth has a GAA of 2.19. He has all three wins, including one shutout.

CSU Bakersfield (6-3-4, 3-2-0 MPSF Pac. Div.) split on the road last weekend, losing at Pacific Division leader San Jose State 1-0 and defeating Seattle 6-2. Gyasi Zardes set a new program record with four goals against the Redhawks.

Zardes leads the Roadrunners with 11 goals, six assists, and 28 points. He has taken 75 shots, with 40 on goal, and has two game winners. Kory Kindle is second with six goals and 12 points.

Eric Shannon has played every minute in goal for the Roadrunners and has a 1.01 GAA.

UNLV (5-9-1, 3-2-0 MPSF Pac. Div.) won twice on the road last weekend, defeating Seattle 2-1 and SJSU 3-2. The Rebels play at New Mexico Friday night.

Salvador Bernal leads the Rebels with five assists and 15 points, and is tied with Nick Marshall and Julian Portugal for the team lead of five goals. Portugal has converted 4-of-5 penalty shots.

Joe Vitale has played every minute in goal for UNLV and has a 1.86 GAA.
