USAFA, Colo. – Houston Baptist bounced back from a 6-0 loss at Denver two nights ago to tie conference leader Air Force, 1-1 in double overtime, Sunday afternoon from the Air Force Soccer Stadium.

HBU concluded regular season play 1-0-1 against the Falcons. In both instances, Air Force had defeated nationally-ranked New Mexico two days prior.

Both goals were scored in the first 18 minutes. The Huskies struck first, as Christian Cruz scored in the sixth minute, assisted by Mark Gendi. Following an Air Force foul, Gendi took the free kick. It bounced in front of Cruz, who side-kicked it from eight yards out to the far post to put the Huskies on the scoreboard.

The Falcons tied the match at one with a goal in the 18th minute, as Garret Getschow scored with the assist going to Jake Jones. Jones took the initial shot which was deflected in front of the goal. Getschow scored on a point-blank shot.

Neither team could score the remaining 82 minutes. The teams battled feisty conditions as there were a total of six yellow cards in the match, four going to HBU.

HBU put some pressure on the Falcons in the waning minutes of regulation, as the Huskies had four shot attempts in the final eight minutes.

Both keepers made a save in the overtimes, with AFA's Matt Underwood stopping a shot in the first OT and Kevin Suarez stopping a header attempt at the buzzer in the second overtime.

HBU has scored four goals against Air Force this season, a quarter of the goals allowed by Underwood all season.

Suarez earned the tie in goal, making three saves. Underwood stopped three shots for the Falcons (6-6-2, 3-1-1 MPSF).

HBU (3-6-2, 1-2-2 MPSF) will return home for its final two home matches of the season. The Huskies host conference foes Seattle University on Fri., Oct. 19 at 7 pm, then face UNLV on the 21st at 1 pm. Sunday's match will be Senior Day for Mateo Jimenez, Francisco Diaz, and Leonel Munoz.
