HOUSTON – There were five ties and nine lead changes, but visiting UT-Pan American used a big run in the second half to defeat Houston Baptist, 55-41, Saturday evening from Sharp Gym.
Tayler Jefferson tied a career high with 10 points for HBU (1-18, 0-3 GWC), as she went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Devyn Weymouth set a new career high with 13 rebounds, as she scored eight points.
Maisie Elston scored nine points, going 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.

UTPA scored six of the game's first eight points to lead by four, 6-2, before HBU scored four-straight points on free throws by Jefferson and a layup by
Joselyn Pugh, to tie the game at six with 14 minutes left in the opening half.
The two teams went back and forth, with one tie and four lead changes in a span of four minutes. A layup by Jackson gave the Lady Broncs a four-point lead, 17-13, with 5:49 remaining, before Elston cut the Husky deficit to one on a three-pointer. Keandra Goodson made a layup as UTPA led 19-16 with 3:45 before HBU used a 5-0 run to close the half to lead by two at the break, 21-19.
Pugh led the Huskies with seven points, while Weymouth was tops with eight rebounds. Jackson led UTPA with six points, while she and Bianca Torre led the team with five boards apiece.
A three pointer by Torre 31 seconds into the second half resulted in the eighth lead change in the game, as UTPA led, 22-21.
HBU used an 11-5 run to give the Huskies their largest lead of the night, 32-27, with 14:06 remaining in the game. But UTPA outscored the Huskies 13-0 to lead 40-32, prompting an HBU timeout. The timeout didn't slow down the Lady Broncs, who scored four more points to lead by 12, 44-32, with 9:16 left in the game.
A pair of Jefferson free throws slowed the run, but UTPA scored 11 of the next 13 points to lead, 55-36, with 2:56 remaining.
A Weymouth layup at the 1:41-mark gave the Huskies their first basket in 13 minutes. Following Weymouth's layup, she later hit one free throw and Pugh hit two free throws as the Huskies closed out the game on a 5-0 run.
HBU will hit the road for the first time in 2012, heading to North Dakota on Feb. 2 and Utah Valley on Feb. 4.
