Basketball Commences Great West Play With Trips to NJIT, Chicago State

Huskies play two league games on the road, before returning home to face UT-Arlington.

NEWARK, N.J. - Houston Baptist begins Great West Conference play with a pair of road games, first against NJIT Thursday, followed by Chicago State Saturday. Matt Thomas broadcasts each game live on HBUHuskies.com beginning 15 minutes prior to tipoff.

The Huskies (6-10) are led by junior forward Marcus Davis, who leads the team with 13.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and is coming off a 40-point, 13-rebound performance against Crowley's Ridge. Junior forward Art Bernardi adds 12.7 points, while freshman guard Tyler Russell averages 11.8 points per game.

NJIT (7-9) is led by Isaiah Wilkerson, who leads the Great West Conference with 15.5 points per game and averages 5.6 rebounds per contest. Chris Flores pitches in with 12.6 points per game and leads the Highlanders with 47 assists.
HBU leads the all-time series against NJIT, 6-2, and defeated the Highlanders, 72-70, in the first round of last year's Great West Conference Tournament in Orem, Utah, in the last meeting between the two schools.

The Huskies return to action when they face Chicago State Saturday at 2:05 p.m. in Chicago, before returning home to face UT-Arlington in non-conference play Tuesday at 7 p.m.
