HOUSTON – The HBU Student Athlete-Advisory Committee (SAAC) is holding its first-ever “Shadow a Husky” this Friday, April 15.
Twenty students from Fondren Middle School will pair off with an HBU student-athlete for the day. The kids will go to a class, go to lunch at the Baugh, go to a Q & A in Sharp Gym and head to the baseball field with the student-athlete. At Husky Field, the kids will go to pre-game, be introduced onto the field and watch some of the game as the HBU baseball team starts a four-game conference set against Northern Colorado at 2 p.m.
The students from Fondren Middle School will be on campus from 9 a.m until around 2 p.m. They will be provided a T-shirt that says “Shadow a Husky.”
This is the first year of the event, one that SAAC co-chair – and head of “Shadow a Husky” – Tia Jackson wants to do yearly.
“Some of these kids may have never been on a college campus before, so it's nice to give them that experience and to be in the perspective of the college student-athlete,” said Jackson.
“We have had a lot of support from the professors of these student-athletes and I would like to thank them, provost Dr. Paul Bonicelli and athletic director
Steve Moniaci,” said compliance assistant and SAAC liaison for the Great West Conference David Crane.
