HOUSTON – The HBU women's basketball team lost to Great West Conference-leading Chicago State by a score of 79-50 on Thursday, Feb. 3, in Sharp Gym.
Jamie Spriggs and Megan Green each scored team highs of 14 points for HBU (2-19, 0-6 GWC). Green's 14 points were one better than her previous season-high set versus Central Arkansas in November. Destini Texada, who was shut out in the first half, finished the game with six points and led the Huskies with eight rebounds. She also set a new season high with six assists, one shy of her career mark against Wiley on Dec. 16, 2009.
Courtney Waldon led Chicago State (15-8, 6-0 GWC) with a game-high 20 points. She also had seven steals, four assists and one block. Tressa Beckel scored 15 points and was tied for the game-high of 10 rebounds, with Caila Desroches. Desroches finished with 14 points while Natalie Marlowe scored 10. Marlowe's six assists all came in the first half.
“There is a reason why Chicago State is 6-0 in the conference,” said head coach Mary Gleason. “They always come ready to play, they rebound and they make shots. We dug ourselves into a hole in the first half, but in the second half, we had a nice run and we picked up the defensive intensity. Megan and Jamie contributed well offensively and we're looking forward to Saturday to put 40 minutes together.”
