HOUSTON – The season-high four-game road trip to start the season ends Saturday night for the Houston Baptist women's basketball team, as the Huskies take on the Miners of UTEP at 8 pm central from the Don Haskins Center.

This is the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and Miners and will be the second-straight match-up between a Conference USA school.

In HBU's last game, at C-USA-member Rice Wednesday, Shanice Steenholdt erupted for career-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds. For the season, the freshman standout leads the team with 13.3 ppg and 6.0 rpg, facing such competition as an NCAA Tournament team (Iowa State) and a WNIT participant (Rice) in the first three games. The Huskies have had 13 freshmen suit up for the blue and orange since the Huskies' transition back to NCAA Division I in 2007-08, entering this season. Steenholdt is averaging the most points per game (the second-highest was Raquel Jones back in 2008-09, who averaged 11.7 ppg in the first three games) and is averaging one rebound less than Brittany Maxey, who averaged 7.0 boards a game in 2009-10. Steenholdt also leads the team with nine steals, averaging three a game, and has one of the team's six blocks.

On the season, Brittany Barton is second in points per game, averaging 6.3. Devyn Weymouth, who was recently named Honorable Mention Preseason All-Conference, is second behind Steenholdt with 5.0 rpg and is averaging 5.0 ppg. Joselyn Pugh, who was honored by being named Second Team Preseason All-Conference, is averaging 6.0 ppg and 4.7 rpg.

UTEP needed overtime to win its second game of the season, defeating New Mexico State in New Mexico, 75-72, Wednesday night.

Gloria Brown came off the bench to score a team-high 21 points, two shy of the game high. She also led the Miners with nine rebounds and recorded three assists, two steals and eight blocks. Chrishauna Parker scored 11 and also added four rebounds and three assists. NMSU's Hannah Womack scored a game-high 23 points.

Saturday's match with the Huskies starts a five-game home stand for the Miners.

Brown is averaging a double-double for UTEP, with 19.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg. She also has 11 of the team's 15 blocks and leads the squad with four steals. Parker and Melisa Mendes are tied for second with 10.5 ppg. Kristine Vitola, who is averaging 7.5 ppg, is second on the team with 5.5 rpg.
