HOUSTON - After flying to Nebraska and bussing to Iowa and Missouri for six hours combined last week, the Houston Baptist women's basketball team won't have to go far for their next road game, at Rice University in downtown Houston. Tip-off is set for a 7 pm start on Wed., Nov. 16 at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice leads the all-time series, 1-0, with the first-ever meeting coming last season at Sharp Gym, as the Owls defeated the Huskies, 82-46 on Dec. 21, 2010.
Destini Texada scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Joselyn Pugh and Tia Jackson were second with seven points apiece. Jessica Kuster of Rice led all scorers with 16 points.
HBU (0-2) is led in scoring by
Shanice Steenholdt, who is averaging 9.5 points per game. She scored 13 points at Iowa State last Friday and was held to just six points at UMKC two days later. She also leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game and six steals.
After scoring a career-high 15 points at UMKC Sunday,
Brittany Barton is second with 7.5 ppg.
Devyn Weymouth is third with 6.5 ppg, as she is tied for second with four steals and tied for first with three assists.
Rice (0-2) lost its first two games this season, at Prairie View A&M, 61-58, and at Oklahoma State, 96-60. Kuster leads the Owls, averaging 14.5 ppg and averages 13.5 rpg. She also has three assists, three blocks and three steals.
D'Frantz Smart is second in scoring, averaging 7.5 ppg, while Christal Porter is third with 6.5 ppg and second with 5.0 rpg.
