Rod Nealy scored more points in a single season than any other HBU player and was named the NAIA National Player of the Year as a Husky. He now has another Player of the Year award to add to his list of accolades earned during his basketball career.
Nealy has been named Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and Import Player of the Year by Eurobasket.com for the Liga Profissional in Portugal. The 6-6 forward is a member of VSC Guimar and will lead his team against Illiabum in the league playoffs beginning April 30.
This season, Nealy averaged 17.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 1.3 assists per game. In addition to the awards listed above, he was also named to the league All-Import and All-Defensive teams. Nealy was a Liga Profissional All-Star and won the Slam Dunk Competition.
During his one season at HBU, Nealy scored 984 points (28.9 points per game) and became the first player in program history to score 50 points in a single game, a feat he accomplished twice. Nealy also led the Huskies in rebounding in his senior year with 11 boards per contest.
Nealy is one of six former Huskies currently playing professional basketball. The others are Bryce Burch, Michael LeBlanc, Gordon Watt, Emanuel Willis and Baron Sauls.
