HOUSTON – After an eight-day layoff, the HBU women's basketball team returns to the court to face Stephen F. Austin State in Nacogdoches on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7 pm.
SFA leads the all-time series, 2-0, with the most recent meeting a 92-46 victory in Houston in December, 2009.
HBU (2-10) lost to visiting Rice, 82-46, on Dec. 21. Destini Texada recorded her fifth double-double on the season and ninth in her career with 11 points, 13 rebounds. Tia Jackson scored seven points while grabbing three rebounds and recording six assists and five steals.
Four Owls finished in double figures, led by Jessica Kuster with 16 points and was tied for the team lead of seven rebounds with Megan Elliott.
Texada is nearly averaging a double-double with 12.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. Texada (12) and Jackson (21) account for more than half of the team's 60 steals. The Huskies are shooting 38 percent from the floor.
Stephen F. Austin State (2-8) ended a four-game road trip with a 59-42 loss at Arkansas State on Dec. 21. Courtney Conwright led SFA with 12 points while Tammara Marion was second with 11. Chantol Drennen came off the bench to grab a team-high five rebounds.
Sherina Scott (21 pts, 16 reb) and Quinishia McDowell (10 pts, 11 reb) each recorded double-doubles for the Red Wolves.
SFA is led in scoring by Marion with 17.7 points per game. Decreasha Goodner leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. As a team, the Ladyjacks are shooting 36 percent from the floor.
