HOUSTON – Rice jumped out to a 48-19 halftime lead and never looked back as the visiting Owls defeated HBU, 82-46, Tuesday evening at Sharp Gym.
Rice jumped out to a 21-4 lead midway through the first half, using a potent full-court press and forcing 11 turnovers and a 25 percent field goal percentage.
That was how the rest of the opening half played out, as Rice led HBU, 48-19. Destini Texada led the Huskies with seven points, while Tia Jackson had five points, three assists and three steals. Rice's Brianna Hypolite led all scorers with 11 points.
The Owls started where they left off opening the second half, outscoring the Huskies 8-1 five minutes into the half and never looking back the remainder of the game.
Texada recorded her fifth double-double on the year and ninth in her career, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, both team-highs. Tia Jackson had seven points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals. Jessica Kuster led all scorers with 16 points for the Owls.
HBU (2-10) will travel to Nacogdoches to face Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 28 at 7 pm.
