Texas Southern Uses Run to Pull Away From Huskies, 71-62

HOUSTON – Texas Southern used a 12-0 second half run to eliminate a tie ball game and defeat visiting HBU, 71-62, Sunday afternoon at TSU's H&PE Arena.
Texas Southern led the Huskies, 33-32, at the break as Sierra Highgate hit a jumper as time expired. The Lady Tigers shot 44 percent compared to HBU's 42 percent in the opening half.
A Megan Green three-pointer tied the game at 41-all at 12:34 of the second half, but it was then the Huskies went cold, as TSU went on a 12-0 run. Mele Leasau ended the drought with a basket at the 6:43-mark, but TSU led HBU, 53-43.
The Huskies battled back, but Texas Southern made key free throws for the remainder of the game.
Jamie Spriggs came off the bench to score a season-high 24 points, just two shy of her career mark set last season. Leasau and Green each scored eight and Destini Texada, the team's leading scorer coming into the game, was limited to six points as she was in foul trouble the entire night.
Three Lady Tigers ended in double-figured, led by NaDosha Strickland with 18 points, followed by Gabrielle Rosiji with 15 and Highgate with 14. Rosiji led all players with nine rebounds.
HBU (2-8) will head to Beaumont to play Lamar on Dec. 19 at 1 pm.
