Adelphi Defeats HBU in Overtime for Second Straight ASC Title

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Host Adelphi tied the match in the 85th minute then scored on a corner kick in overtime to win its second straight Atlantic Soccer Conference championship with a 2-1 win over HBU Sunday afternoon.

There was no score until the 77th minute when Kristopher Tyrpak gave the top-seeded Huskies (7-8-3) a 1-0 lead, assisted by Mateo Jimenez. Jimenez sent the ball up the field and Tyrpak had one defender to beat and he shot the ball into the left part of the net.

Second-seeded Adelphi (11-6-2) tied the match in the 85th minute when Domenico Parrelli sent the ball into the box and Alexander Kouznetsov redirected it into the net.

The Panthers were awarded a corner kick five minutes into overtime and they converted for the game winner. Mauricio Mora kicked the ball into play and Dan Laurenius headed it past Chris Dodd.

Adelphi outshot HBU 18-12, including an 8-3 advantage in the second half. Adelphi also led 9-4 in corner kicks as HBU had all four of theirs in the first half.

Dodd was busy in goal for the Huskies, making eight saves while suffering the loss. ASC First Team All-Conference goalkeeper, Adelphi's Thorne Holder, made two saves for the win.
